Persuna Thaumatico |
Elves (s. elf, scientific name persuna thaumatico, "thaumic man", Nolavine: pantagi, Belgrish: Ausch-Alin, Alnach, Old Orissian: nyen, nyen-cheso) are a group (sometimes called a species) of the Human macrogenus (persuna). Anatomically and behaviorally similar to true humans (p. pensica), they are mainly distinguished by their typical phenotype (mainly epicanthic folds, neoteny), long and sharp canines, capability to grow horns, and long, pointed ears. They are also known to be the only human species to naturally change form under the Zhunnwo state.
Elves are known to have capability to successfully crossbreed with humans (making elves and humans the only known species of the Anthropo genus to do so). Elves account for XX% of the world population, going second to true humans. There is an ongoing scientific (and social) debate on whether to consider Elves as a subgroup to Humans proper than as a separate branch in the macrogenus, mainly due to their identical genetic compatibility. However, present enmities between the two peoples, coupled with a troubled history of war and conflict has put any sort of meaningful progress in the issue in a global scale. As of 2125, the Hallegian Concord is the only world region that officially considers Elves as True Human.

Behavior
Most elves tend to be born in the spectrum and tend to be collectivist and empathic, most especially native Orissians.
Society
Elves usually band together in familial groups, ie. clans/broods (家, kha or khang), and traditionally tend to keep to themselves. Each kha is lead by a figure known as the "broodparent" (gendered "broodfather" or "-mother", khachin or khangphama) serving as both chieftain and ultimate parental figure to the kha.
Culture
Most elves share common features in their social and cultural expression.
Languages
The languages of the mainland Apelitian and Zephyric elves are of the Orissian variety. In the west, the Telancrine language developed from a proto-Talanic lingua franca used during the Hyratian era.
