The Bazgriyan Neutral Trade Zone, also the Bazgriyan NTZ is an diplomatically-recognized swath of nominally unclaimed and uncontrolled territory that encompasses much of the Bazgriyan Basin. It is surrounded clockwise by Ayhartaa, Anrgen, Gergere, Amazht, Qavandeht, Kashran, Kratiwe, Eleterion, Prevna-Patrea and Kontinovad. It is the largest of the three unanimously recognized Neutral Zones — special territories deemed by intersocietal arbitration/agreenent as free of any direct control of the Great powers and their respective spheres of influence. In the case of the NTZ, the Settlement on the Future of the Bazgriyan Basin denotes the territory as a place of open trade and development.

The current situation within the NTZ stems from later diplomatic consensus. With sovereignty unenforceable by any party without reaction from the Great Powers, and each Powers' respective insistence to have little to no dealings within the NTZ, the region is essentially disorganized and stateless, many of the surrounding polities, most particularly Ayhartaa and the Palatine countries instituting barriers upon their borders to keep away raiders from the NTZ. This "enforced isolation" in the neutral zone has made the various uncivilized societies, mainly nomads and sedentary herders, to be technically "invisible" to any viable legal institution. With this, the natives of the NTZ has developed into a state of autarky (both socially and economically), its various societies left alone by virtue of the Accords. Thus, the region remains without substantial development or support from outside parties.

Major industrial enterprises from the various blocs, mostly of Victorialan, Kontinovadic and Tartessan provenance, have established themselves as the Zone's only resource exploiters without fear of state intervention, mainly in the fields of agriculture, commercial pastoralism and mining. Reports from independent research societies (mainly from Hallegia) state large deposits of metals in the region such as iron ore, copper and naumite, the latter deemed an attribution to the high levels of thavma in the Bazgriyan Basin. Other civilized activity in the NTZ include the Great Continental Way, one of the longest uninterrupted railways in the world is located in the NTZ, facilitating the traditional trade route between Antraea and Imalea. Most of these activities have been decried, particularly by Hallegians, as particularly disturbing the natives of the NTZ, and has been a major flashpoint between the powers and the natives involved.

Geography

The NTZ holds the bulk of the Bazgriyan Basin. Its highest peak is the legendary Amünekat in the eastern regions.

Ethnology and Hominology

Human/Kentaurine nomads...

[most humans are of Ayhartan stock, though speaking a Bazgro-Antraean language.]

[Centaurines/Thamne are mostly of equine stock, speaking the numerous Amurian dialects, also a Bazgro-antrecian tongue.]

[Ethnographic research in the region has been shaky and scattered, even before the institution of the western barriers.

Current issues

The western regions of the basin has suffered the greatest levels of private exploitation.
