The Neterine religions (from Hyrotic nātər, "god, divinity"), also known as Neterism or the Perennial Theurgies (Nolavine: thavmazon anevasi) in thaumic studies, are a family of religious traditions that descend from the original Hyratian Old Faith. They are usually defined by a shared pantheon, a structured cosmology (ie. the Katra Parazion or the Great Firmaments), and a belief that divinity is immanent in everything. The majority of faithful in the Civilized World are roughly speaking Neterine, with Amatorism, Salacism, Madra Daha and the Elven Hinnat being major world religions.

Contemporary historiography universally marks the divergence of the Neterine religions from the Hyratian Old Faith during the Great Catastrophe of ~7000va. Some have even argued that, particularly in the Metharian, a clean break from the Old Faith never really existed.

Analysis

Unlike in Antraea and the Conditary World where there is a clear divide of religious faith especially between Neterine faiths in the region (see Amatorism, Dominionism), in the Metharian Belt and the Orissia there seems to be a more universal agreement on a shared sense of spirituality. Religious difference is largely defined by tutelary patronage in which each god of the Ennead predominate in their traditional domains and religious identity is defined by loyalty to a particular god. In Orissia, where blood relations are paramount and inter-social relations lead to emotional extremes, the emergence of a religious divide between the traditionalist Black Elves and the revivalist White Elves after the Great Catastrophe is not only a matter of theology and apostasy, but also of filial loyalty.

This relationship would change in the postclassical period with the advent of prophetic religions such as Amatorism and Salacismas they proclaim a new, universal religious order.
